Herbal Treatments
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) combines Acupuncture, Herbal medicine, Food therapy amongst other therapies to support the body in the healing process.
As opposed to focusing on presenting symptoms alone, TCM looks at the body and all of its systems as a whole. This way we can help identify a ‘syndrome pattern’ leading to the symptoms in questions. The TCM Materia Medica includes thousands of individual herbs and formulas this allows us to put together a prescription that is catered specifically to you at the time of assessment.
TCM can help treat a vast array of ailments, it can also be used as complementary or preventative medicine. Some areas commonly treated with TCM herbal and food therapies are chronic pain, women’s health, digestive concerns, stress, insomnia etc.
What to Expect
When you come in for an assessment we will go over many areas of your general health and lifestyle as well as your primary concerns. We will come up with a TCM diagnosis and an herbal prescription and likely some nutritional guidance as well since food is often a wonderful form of medicine. Generally, as a prescription, you can expect to use granules. They are herbs that have been decocted (boiled over a specific period of time) then dehydrated. This allows easy use. Though raw herbs are lovely to work with, it can be time-consuming to prepare your own decoction at home. The granules dilute in warm water and can be taken on the go.
